What kind of helmet do you wear?

As many people on here ride motorcycles, atvs, bicycles, and racecars; and many people here do so responsibly; what kind of helmets do you have? Here’s a history of mine.

Kinja'd!!!

I had a few old beat up ones when I was growing up but we’ll start with my high school and up helmets. First up is my Nutcase helmet with all the battle scars of drunken and stupid choices.

Kinja'd!!!

Then I got this CKX TX217 Superman as my first new helmet as a gift from my brother when I bought my first street motorcycle. I used it for about two years and still use it occasionally for mountain biking.

Kinja'd!!!

I upgraded to a Joe Rocket RKT 101 Carbon when I started doing long trips( along with a proper jacket, jeans, gloves, and boots.) I absolutely love the subtle carbon weave poking out of the blue. I bought a chrome visor to go with it as well but the finish wore off quickly and now I just have a spare visor. This is my current riding helmet.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And this is my newest helmet. By newest I mean about two years old. I haven’t used it yet because the graphics seem fragile and I want to get a clear coat on it first. It is a Bell Star RS-1 RSD Flash. I’ve always preferred subtle helmets but this one really caught my eye.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And those are my helmets, what do you ride with Oppo?

Bonus: my primary motoryclce right now. Just replaced air filter, spark plugs, oil and filter, and brake pads. Flushed the brake fluid and coolant, and adjusted the chain. Runs much happier now. Inspired by Practical Enthusiasts recent post about de-Craigslisting his Ninja, I have a lot of bad wiring and previous damage to undo that I have ignored for many years.

For autocross/track days/go-karts I recently got the new Racequip, because cheap and SA2015.

I wear this whenever I feel shrapnel might be a problem. Pretty cheap from surplus.

G-Force Pro Eliminator
Shoei TZ-R
Giro Ionos
LG Rocket Air
Rudy Wingspan

All of these need replaced as they are past their 5yr date. Ugh. Moto and cycle helmets see a lot of UV and usage. I need to be safer.

My Joe Rocket is going on 8 years old and its still in really good shape. My CKX is separating the foam from the shell so its no good anymore. The date really doesn’t matter if you keep the liner clean and inspect it often. I usually wear a head sock or cap on longer rides to keep sweat out of it too.

Some sort of visored open face for mountain biking. A mammut el cap for rock climbing maybe 30% of the time. I don't wear one snowboarding...

Works great. I was a little unsure at first, but a pair of circus performers convinced me it was solid (I needed a helmet before they would shoot me out of their cannon). I was a little shaken up after its first test, but I walked it off and I’m no worse for wear!

Yeah, it’s great. I got my first one after a week where it was 100+ every day and decided my old one wasn’t cutting it with the heat. This one is so much better. Had to get a new one after I bounced my head off the pavement and the helmet got some small cracks. Still my head was fine (my shoulder was not), so I guess it did its job from a safety perspective as well.

I wear a Bell. When I was a teenager, my brother was in a crash on his bike, landing with the back of his head on a curb. The helmet shattered but he was fine. We called to thank them and they asked us to send in the helmet with a description of the wreck etc. in exchange for a $25 voucher for a new Bell helmet.

I've been buying them ever since.

Bell seems like a really good company. My experience with them is limited but the one I did buy is definitely the best built helmet I have.

Once I’m more experienced, I plan to commission a friend to paint it for me.

It does with a dirt skirt. They come from PCI with velcro along the bottom for attaching one of these skirts. No dust, plus extra protection in case of fire.

Arai corsair V for the motorcycle. Used to have a scorpion and wasn’t too impressed with its quality (but hey get what you pay for) so I upgraded to an Arai vector 2, slammed in it, and it worked so well I was sold on another. So I got another vector 2 then once I started racing I got the corsair v and use the vector 2 as a spare in case I throw the bike down the road and trash my corsair v.

Kinja'd!!!

I also have a Sparco carbon fiber helmet because I was racing karts at one point and decided I’m fresh out of collage with a real job I should make a totally irresponsible purchase. The really sad thing is I totally forgot I even had that helmet until I started responding to this.

Before my Vision-R I had an HJC “beater” while learning to ride, a Shoei RF-1000 as my first nice helmet, a Bell Star (Loud as shit), Shoei Qwest (Meh), and Schuberth C3 (Super quiet, but way too big for me)
